For Category C1 C D1 D
Practical training for all the above categories are the same. The government has set a syllabus which has to be followed. The Driving Standards Agency DSA has published a book which contains the syllabus. This book is called "The official DSA guide to Driving Buses and Coaches or Large Goods Vehicles" and is available from us and leading book shops.
Note: This is not the Theory Book. Also this book has no value if the person is not being trained by a qualified instructor
Practical Training For C1 D1
In our experience it takes on average 10 to 15 hours of training to cover the syllabus for a person with a minimum of 1 year car driving experience.
Practical Training For C D
Typically, it takes on average 20 to 23 hours of training to cover the syllabus for a person with a minimum of 2/3 years car driving experience.
Practical Training For C+E
This is a revision of category C training and additional training on reversing and coupling and uncoupling of the trailer. On average it takes 12 to 16 hours to complete the course.

Q1. To train on category C+E, do you have to wait a certain amount of time after passing
category C?
A1. No. As long as your licence has been endorsed with category C on the card part of
the licence and the counterpart has been endorsed with provisional category C+E.
